Does it take long for your students to learn how to do this. I am sure we do the same kind of activity in Australia. Are you training nurses in your program?
It is wonderful to use equipment for simulation isnt it? How big is your simulated area? What sort of equipment do you have? We also teach in our nursing program and we have a SIMMAN - have you heard of this?
I understand this is a "fake" arm , but it sure looks natural. can training with this simulation be as good as with real patients? Who is chosen as the first human testpilot for the students?
@ Ros: I teach nurse assistens. It´s diffrent how much time each students needs. Some can do this exercise after 3-5 tries, and some need more tries. But almost all like this kind of lesson :-)
@ melissa: Yes it is. Sorry but I don´t know what a SIMMAN is!!! Can you explain it please :-)? I hope it isn´t so difficult, my english isn´t so well :-) Our simulated area isn´t so big Melissa. It is one room about 30 squaremeter, it calls metodik room. But my students love to use this room, because they know it will be much practical exercise :-)
@ingemar: Yes it looks natural :-) Of course you can´t compare this "fake" arm to a real patients arm, but it can prepare you in a good way. I think the mentor and the student chose the first patient... We are all rookies in the beginning :-)
I find that our students dont like to take on this fake arm. They whant to practice on eatch other insted. But we let them try on the arm first even if they whant too or not.
I think it is good that students can try to feel the instruments used before students take their own samples of patients. Do they often want to practice?

Hello Katharina, is a student or a teacher that shows how to take blood samples from patients on the photo?

ReplyDelete@Pauline: This was a student :-) She have to tried many times, because she is afraid she will hurt someone.

ReplyDeleteAnni-Li@ I can understand them, but it is of course safer to practice first on the fake arm :-)
