We deliver our AGED CARE and HACC in classrooms, online, in the workplace and also in our simulated learning environment.

Our happy students thinking in a most reflective way !! (NB full written consent to use photo)
A happy class of learners - note the diversity. The energy is always high and focussed. (NB full written consent to use photo)
Learning in the cafeteria - it happens everywhere! with some of our visiting older people who add the wisdom and perspective (NB full written consent to use photo)
Some of our students in their CIT shirts just before they start their placement in aged care for the first time. (NB full written consent for use of photo)
A photo of the HACC simulation - lower couches, a variety of beds, manual handling hoist on ceiling, manual handling aides etc
For many of our students talking and interacting with an older person is new experience. Here is one of our dedicated students practicing english conversation and providing assistance whilst waking with an older person in one of the gardens at CIT. It is always such a lovely presence and learning becomes opportunistic. (NB full written consent for use of photo)
And this is one of our favourite photos that captures the connection made between the student and older person in the learning environment. We talk about who learns what......from many perspectives. (NB full written consent for use of photo)

Linda and Melissa these are wonderful photographs of your students and their learning. What a variety of activities you have going on and I am sure the students really enjoy your energy and enthusiasm.I particularly liked the last photograph and the obvious connection between the student and the older person. This is so difficult to achieve I think and it is a great credit to your great teaching
ReplyDeleteHello Ros - thank you for your comments. Students tell us that they value the variety of teaching methods use and also the different approaches used in assessment. Many of the students that come to us at CIT Aged Care have had negative experiences in educatoin and often have little belief in their academic capabilities. Getting them active and engaged with a strong sense of aged care philosophy brings the group together quickly. I am glad that these photos reflect some of this. LInda and I and our whole teaching team are constantly inspired and we learn so much. Tell us about some of the activities that you create and engage in.......
ReplyDeleteOh, what a lot of nice pictures you have taken. What large spacious classrooms you have? How many students are in each class? How many teachers are the ones who teach them?
ReplyDeleteHello Pauline,
ReplyDeleteThank you. We deliver the Certificate III in aged care over a six month period for students who enrol to study full time. In our simulated learning environments we have no more than 35 students to ensure safety etc. In our classrooms it varies. Some of our classes have 55 students. In our classrooms delivery is through one teacher and in our SLE we may have two to assist. When it comes to assessment of practical skills we have a number of assessors seeing students. We also deliver the certificate III and IV in Home and Community care and the certificate IV in Aged Care. At the Certificate IV level we focus more on coordination and supervisory roles so delivery is slightly different.
I´m impress of your simulated enviroment it´s so big. We have 2 rooms whit 2 beds in each. So it´s takes time for us to be there and let the students work practical. I will take your foto and show our principal and see if he can see our problem. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHello Anni-Li, thank you for your comments. yes I would like to see a photo. Well journeys begin somewhere. When we first set up a simulated learning environment we began with two beds in a small room like you. Through the success of student understanding and good promotion we were able to slowly slowly build our simulated rooms. Now we have four large areas that are utlised across about 6 programs.
DeleteI even like the pictures whit students and patients. It looks like they injoy there education and become good caring staf then they starts too work.
ReplyDeleteYes - Anni-Li thank you. Students become engaged in a hands on way which suits their learning and understanding of the aged care tasks they need to learn. Students tell us that they feel prepared when they commence work in their 50 hour industry placements which is organised as part of their course.
DeleteWhat lovely photos! How many classes are you with access to your fine metodrum?
ReplyDeleteHello erika. Thank you. The students chose the photos they wanted to share with you. We have 15 subjects in the aged care course and about two classes for every subject. we mostly teach work health and safety, personal care, medications and dementia care in the simulated work environments. How do you teach subjects like this?
DeleteVery big school...I like your pictures too. After exam in what kind of areas can your students work?
ReplyDeleteHello Katharina,
DeleteThank you for your commments. We do not use exams to assess our aged care students. Rather we use role plays, scanrios, case studies and worksheets. Students also give presentations and we also assess them in the workplace. Students who successfully complete work as personal carers in aged care, support workers, home and community care workers, assistants in nursing etc Basically they fullfill roles of caring for older people regardless of where they live. Tell me about your courses and students.
