It is excellent that the students have the chance to practice what they have learnt in their theory lessons. In Australia in these programs our students also have many chances to practice. How much theory do they have to have before they can effectively measure each other's blood pressure?
Relating to learning theory , would you say that teaching here is mainly based on behavioural theory or more on situational learning theory, like social-cultural learning theory?
I teach students manual blood pressure and it takes a while for them to become proficient - they ususally have about 2 hr theory on BP in the first instance(after other vitals) then they have practice for a 2 hour sessions. it takes a few sessions to see their skills start to develop and get it all together- when they go on placement I see a big difference in their competence - this skill really requires a lot of practice - what do others think?
We have our students to take blood pressure now and then so they can become more sure of then equitment. Of couse they have the theroy first. But some times then you have a lesson wkit just theroy of something and the students need too do something else they can take a blood pressure ande then we can go on whit the theroy we were working with.
